As January has come and gone, it seems as though the many fitness goals we may have set for ourselves have waned... This does not have to be the case!! There are a few simple things we can keep in mind to help make sure we continue towards our fitness and health goals.

One of the most important things to keep in mind is that whatever you were doing before is not going to help you achieve your health goal. You have to step outside of your comfort zone otherwise you are not instituting change that will help you move forward! This doesn’t mean abandoning everything entirely. Instead, this means adding positive habits that will help you step outside your comfort zone and help you achieve the goals you set out for yourself.

Achieving your health and fitness goal means that you must set clear, direct, realistic exercise goals. Many times we get lost by making fitness goals that are abstract and meaningless to us personally. For example, don’t just say, “I’m going to lose weight this year.” Instead say something closer to, “I’m going to lose 15 lbs by our summer vacation.” This will help keep you on track because it is concrete and absolutely realistic!

Keep in mind that we will have ‘speed bumps’ along the way. This doesn’t indicate failure… remember, nobody is perfect! The important thing is to continue to move forward even after these missteps!

And lastly, don’t forget to keep fitness fun and interesting! This can be done by making small mini goals along the way. When you reach your mini fitness goal, don’t forget to reward yourself! All of these will eventually lead you to your overall main goal!
